So, have you been to Sonic lately?! Wow, it’s only been open less than 2 months, but it appears that Sonic has established a firm belly-hold on the Oswego and Montgomery area residents! It seems that most afternoon and evenings the stalls are filled, the drive-thru is humming, and there is a queue of cars in the Menard’s parking lot. Personally, I’ve visited 3 times, twice for my beloved foot-long chili dog with mustard an onions. No, it’s not the best thing to be eating. No, I don’t plan to stop either.
- Slushies. Not a slush, or a frozen drink. It’s a slushie, and it’s not going to take any hair off a man’s chest to order it by name either. My recommendation is the lemon slushie. And don’t forget that 2-4pm slushies are 50% off!
- The waitstaff is great. Not only do the kids marvel at the fact that they get to wear roller skates while they work, the little things make you wonder why every fast food restaurant can’t do the same. I particularly like that they come back around with a condiments/napkins tray (think: cigarette girl). And, it’s refreshing in this day and age to see teens that can count money without a register that does everything but spit out the right coins. My only concern: please, please put a flashing light on the hips of the waitstaff – I’m fearing one day a driver won’t be paying attention when backing out!
- The aforementioned foot-long chili dog. It’s pure heaven for those who periodically relish (no pun intended) the antithesis of the Chicago hot dog, which is available just down the road at Portillo’s. Just don’t try to eat it in your car – the kids love to open the back of the SUV and make it kinda like a picnic. And, I can eat standing up!
- Onion rings. Not the dinky little Burger King variety either. No, these are honest to goodness onion rings for onions you would buy if you making them at home.
If you haven’t yet, try out the new Sonic and tell them The Oswego Post recommended you do so!
