Press Release: Door-to-Door Sales Scam Alert
Oswego Police are warning residents of a scam involving young men and woman, between 18-25 years old, going door-to-door either trying to sell magazine subscriptions or other services, such as cleaning windows or doing landscaping. Their ultimate goal is to get victims to write a check to a company called Quality Subscriptions Inc (QSI) with the expectation of something in return. The manner in which these transactions are being conducted is often misleading to the residents. They portray themselves as either living in the local area or being friends with someone in the neighborhood. They apparently are contracted by a company out of Georgia called Quality Subscriptions Inc (QSI) or United Family Circulation. There are numerous complaints about the company and their sales associates on the internet.
The Village of Oswego requires most solicitors to obtain a permit and provide their personal information for a background check prior to conducting business within city limits. Residents are encouraged to ask solicitors to show their permit before engaging in business.
